Here’s Life Inner City’s mission is to serve and mobilize the church to live out God’s heart for the poor, so all can grow in Christ and spiritually multiply. Church Partnership is an integral part in making this happen.

Each, year, HLIC partners with over 100 inner city churches and agencies in providing PowerPacks for children and their families who might not otherwise be able to obtain the appropriate school supplies for school in the fall. 5,000 PowerPacks were provided last year, but many more were requested.

The goal for 2010 is to provide a PowerPack for over 10,000 children in the inner city of Minneapolis and St. Paul. A PowerPack (a backpack filled with school supplies) is a unique way to meet a real need for many children and their families in our community.

Needs in the inner city are great and the challenges children face are many. But, together, we can build hope for these children.

STEP 1. PRAY AND PLAN

  • Pray and set a goal for the number of PowerPacks your church would like to provide.

  • Make announcements during worship times, in weekly bulletins and other appropriate church publications. Start with "kick-off" announcement to get families and church members excited about the opportunity and then continue to make announcements leading up to the Packing Party. These announcements will show the support of the Senior Pastor and church leadership. 

 

STEP 2. ORDER

  • Order empty backpacks from Here's Life Inner City. Here's Life Inner City provides backpacks for you to purchase for $8 per backpack (a $35 value).

  • Invite your congregation to purchase school supplies for the backpacks with the list provided by HLIC. Remember to have a due date for when the supplies need to be purchased and delivered to your church. (click here to view the list)

  • Here's Life Inner City will provide the Scripture material for each PowerPack you put together.

  • Families and church members can then go and buy new school supplies. This should happen during the months of July and early August.

STEP 3. PACK

  • Have a Packing Party to fill the backpacks with the supplies.

  • Participants can include a personalized note or card to each PowerPack as they pack if they would like to. A simple note, wishing the child a good start to the school year and letting them know they are being prayed for.

 

 


STEP 4. DELIVER
  • After the PowerPacks are filled, deliver them to the Here’s Life Inner City Community Resource Center to be distributed to the participating Urban Partner Ministries. They in turn will hand deliver them to families that they have identified in their neighborhood who are in need – families that they are reaching out to with God’s love. 
  • The PowerPacks campaign at your church should wrap up during prior to or during the week of August 17th – 21st,
